Steps
1
Shut off both the hot and cold water supply valves located beneath the sink by turning them clockwise. Test the faucet to ensure no water is flowing.
2
Remove the decorative cap on the front of the faucet handle. Use the Allen wrench to loosen the set screw and pull the handle off the top of the cartridge.
3
Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the top ring (collar) of the faucet. Use a towel around the ring to protect the chrome finish from the wrench teeth.
Tip: The collar may require many turns to fully loosen.
4
Pull the faucet spout off and clean out the inside of the base to remove any buildup or debris accumulated from the leak.
5
Remove the old O-rings from the spout. Use a screwdriver to lift the bottom ring first, then roll it over the top one to prevent it from getting caught in the groove.
6
Install new O-rings by placing the first in the top groove and rolling the second into the bottom groove. Apply silicone plumber's grease to the rings to ensure a better seal and smoother movement.
7
Slide the faucet spout back into place, ensuring any internal plastic slide rings are still present. Tighten the chrome collar back down using the adjustable wrench.
8
Reinstall the handle by sliding it back onto the cartridge and tightening the set screw with the Allen wrench. Replace the decorative cap.
9
Turn the water supply valves back on and test the faucet for leaks while swiveling the spout back and forth.
10
If the leak persists after replacing the O-rings, or if you are uncomfortable with the disassembly, call a professional plumber.
Pro Tips
If you are unsure of the O-ring size, take the old rings to the hardware store to ensure an exact match.
